Lois Schmitt served for more than two decades as the education director and media spokesperson for the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs. She currently teaches economics at Nassau Community College. 

She is the author of a mystery series featuring amateur sleuth and wildlife reporter Kristy Farrell. These books include Monkey Business, Something Fishy, (2nd place runner up for the Killer Nashville Claymore Award), Playing Possum, and Bearly Evident. She is currently working on the next book in the series.

Lois is a member of the Massapequa Kiwanis Club and she serves on the Board of Directors of the Massapequa Historical Society.
