PROGRAMS

To mark the arrival of this musical icon to our organization, Bernard Purdie, we have decided to take advantage of Mr. Purdie’s expertise by announcing that this year, we will be giving out a scholarship to a percussionist.  We will be choosing  the recipient in a most special way.  It will be a competition.

A Battle of the Drums.

AYUDA for the Arts will be asking for students who will be majoring in Music and specifically in percussion to apply for the scholarship in two steps:

  1. First by filling out our standard application from our website, and

  2. Second, by providing a video of up to 5 minutes showing them performing on the drums.  Make sure your video file has your name in it.

The applicant must meet the criteria of our AYUDA scholarship application, be majoring in music, be from the NY Metropolitan area and have been accepted to a higher education institution.

The applications and videos will be judged by a panel including Mr. Purdie, where they will be narrowed down to three finalists.  We will then post the videos of the finalists on our website and our Facebook page, where the public will be able to vote for the student of their choice.  That will be part of the determination of the winner.  The other part will be an actual performance by each of the finalists at our event which will be held at the Copacabana in November.  That night, the attendees will vote, as will the judges.  And the winner will be revealed.  To be eligible, the winner must be present at the event.

In addition to the scholarship being awarded, the winner will also have mentoring and networking opportunities through AYUDA for the Arts, of which Mr. Purdie is an integral part.

A second scholarship will be in the area of architecture.  An application will need to be filled out and pictures of the projects and necessary drawings, etc. must accompany the application.

The scholarship lifted pressure off my family's shoulders. It also greatly boosted my confidence in my work. It made me feel the need to do more than what I was capable of doing. Currently, I am working as an Art Director in a small Ad agency.

AYUDA for the Arts has not only given me a scholarship to pursue my future in fashion but you have also given me invaluable encouragement and support. The scholarship helped me to purchase the supplies I needed to complete my studies. Your interest in my progress which you have shown through your visits and your emails has also been of great importance for me. Thank you for helping me obtain an internship.
